Manchester United vs Brighton & Hove Albion 10/11/19

10 November 2019

Manchester United will have a chance to leapfrog eight-placed Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League (PL) table if they pull off a win when the two sides lock horns at Old Trafford this weekend.

Unbeaten in the last three PL home outings (W1, D2), the hosts will be looking to post their fourth consecutive home triumph over Brighton in all competitions. Although they brushed aside Partizan Belgrade 3-0 in the Europa League during midweek, the Red Devils have had problems scoring at home lately. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have scored precisely one goal in four of their previous PL home matches, with the last three featuring under 2.5 total goals. United seem to be moving through the gears in the late stages of the first half, as three of their last five PL goals scored arrived in the final 15 minutes of the first period. Interestingly, six of the previous league eight goals conceded by United have come in the second half, with Solskjaer’s men keeping four first-half clean sheets in five PL home games so far.

For the visitors, goals have been in short supply on the road recently, as they’ve drawn a blank in three successive PL road trips (D1, L2) before losing 2-1 to Aston Villa in their last away fixture. Graham Potter can’t be happy with his team’s defensive performances either, as the Seagulls conceded over 1.5 match goals in three of four their previous PL road games. However, Brighton did win back-to-back league matches in the build-up to this encounter, scoring five goals – four after the break. In fact, none of their last six PL fixtures has ended in a draw (W3, L3), with four of those matches producing over 2.5 goals.
