Manchester United vs AC Milan 04/08/19
4 August 2019
Manchester United and AC Milan will complete their 2019 International Champions Cup campaign at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff as the two European giants go head-to-head at the same tournament for the second year in a row.
The Premier League heavyweights came off better last year, edging out the Italians on a penalty shootout after the encounter ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
The Red Devils have enjoyed quite successful pre-season so far, putting together five wins, four of which have seen them beat their rivals to nil. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have outplayed Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 and Inter Milan 1-0 in the ICC before securing a narrow 1-0 triumph over the Norwegian outfit Kristiansund last time out. The fact that United conceded just one goal in their pre-season is very important for them, considering the fact they’ve struggled to keep a clean sheet in the final 15 games of the 2018-19 campaign. Interestingly, seven of a total ten goals United have netted this summer have arrived in the second half, with six of them coming beyond the hour mark.
On the other hand, the Serie A side has been struggling for form this summer, having suffered two defeats in as many International Champions Cup outings. Both of their losses to Bayern Munich and Benfica have ended with the same 1-0 scoreline, although the Rossoneri fired nine shots on target across those two matches. Also, Marco Giampaolo’s men have failed to beat the Italian lower-league side Novara in their first summer friendly, being held to a disappointing 1-1 draw. As a result, just one of Milan’s last six games has featured over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, with the Rossoneri scoring one goal or less on four occasions in the process.
