Manchester City vs Burton Albion 10/01/19

10 January 2019

After pulling off an outstanding 7-0 win over Championship side Rotherham United, Manchester City will host League One outfit Burton Albion to the Etihad Stadium looking to stretch a three-game winning run.

Manchester City have gone from two straight defeats to three successive wins in domestic competitions. The Citizens have started a new year with a precious 2-1 home victory over Liverpool, which was their 13th home victory out of 15 games this season, with Pep Guardiola’s men scoring over 1.5 goals in each. The reigning Premier League holders are yet to play out a draw at Etihad this campaign, as they’ve lost two home clashes, including the one Crystal Palace in the domestic championship back in December. Also, Man City’s defensive frailties have seen them concede in six successive home outings prior to their weekend’s triumph over Rotherham.

On the other, the visitors clinched an impressive 4-0 road victory over Rochdale last weekend, which has extended their unbeaten run to four games (W2, D2). Still, the Brewers are big underdogs in this encounter, especially considering the club never managed to reach the top flight. Burton’s indifferent road form could make a further distance between the sides as Nigel Clough’s players lost four of their last seven road trips. Furthermore, Burton have failed to hit the back of the net four times in the previous six away meetings. However, they’ve managed to keep three clean sheets on the last four road trips – twice in a row, which is their longest run this season.
