Mallorca vs Atletico Madrid 26/09/19

26 September 2019

Two sides that have had identical returns from their last two La Liga (LL) fixtures (D1, L1) meet face-to-face at the Estadio de Son Moix as Mallorca take on Atletico Madrid.

Although they’ve kicked off the new top-flight campaign with a 2-1 home triumph over Eibar, the returnees have been struggling for form ever since. A goalless home draw with Athletic Bilbao aside, the hosts have lost three of their last four LL outings, failing to find the back of the net twice. Two of Mallorca’s three LL home games have featured under 1.5 goals with three of four goals seen at their league home matches this term coming after halftime. Taking into account their home results from the beginning of 2019, Segunda Division included, the ‘Vermilions’ have lost just one of 16 competitive home games (W12, D3, L1). Surprisingly, Los Bermellones have won four of their last six top-flight H2Hs with Atletico (W4, D1, L1), preventing the Madrid giants from scoring more than one goal per match five times across those clashes.

Meanwhile, the visitors head to Mallorca desperate to post their first LL triumph after back-to-back failures (D1, L1). Even though Los Colchoneros pulled off three league wins this term, they’ve been struggling for goals for the majority of the early season. Diego Simeone’s men have failed to find the back of the net in the last two league outings, scoring precisely one goal per match in two of the remaining three LL games. Also, in spite of three LL clean sheets, Los Rojiblancos have already conceded four goals, conceding two apiece against Eibar and Real Sociedad. Furthermore, Simeone will be eager to see his players improving on their recent away performances, as Atletico managed only one victory in the last four LL trips (W1, D1, L2).
