Mainz 05 vs Bayern Munich 27/10/18

27 October 2018

After a 2-0 defeat over AEK Athens in the Champions League, Bayern Munich will travel to the Opel Arena to face-off against Mainz 05, looking to extend a 2-game winning streak.

After a promising start of the season, Die Nullfünfer have struggled to maintain the same performance, as they’ve failed to register a Bundesliga triumph five times in a row. The Karnevalsverein have lost the previous three away meetings, without scoring a single goal. Moreover, they’ve played out two straight 0-0 draws at home with Wolfsburg and Hertha, which represents a disastrous 5-game scoreless streak for Sandro Schwarz’s players. However, in four games at home so far, Mainz only allowed one goal, the fewest of all teams in German top flight.

Meanwhile, the Bavarians seem to be on their way to overcome a frustrating crisis, which saw them failing to secure a victory in four consecutive matches in all competitions. The Bundesliga holders outclassed Wolfsburg last weekend, clinching a comfortable 3-1 triumph before taking over the top spot in the Champions League Group E in midweek. With 15 goals notched so far, the Reds have the fourth-best attacking record in Germany, behind the two Borussias and Eintracht Frankfurt. However, they have the best road record in the Bundesliga, as they’ve won three out of four away games, in which they’ve only conceded three goals.

Provisional line-up – Mainz:
Gk: Muller Defense: Brosinski – Niakhate – Mwene – Bell Midfield: Gbamin – Aaron – Kunde Malong Attack: Boetius – Mateta- Burkardt

Provisional line-up – Bayern Munich:
Gk: Neuer Defense: Sule – Hummels – Alaba – Kimmich Midfield: Martinez – Goretzka – Thiago Alcantara Attack: James Rodriguez – Gnabry – Lewandowski
