Lyon vs Paris Saint-Germain 04/02/19

04 February 2019

The Champions League promotion fighters and the undisputed Ligue 1 toppers go head-to-head at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais as Lyon welcome Paris Saint-Germain to the Groupama Stadium.

Unbeaten in their last six Ligue 1 games (W3, D3), the host come into this meeting after securing two consecutive league triumphs for the first time since November. With St. Etienne lurking in the shadows, Les Gones need a positive outcome here to preserve a three-point lead over Les Verts and remain in the Champions League promotion zone. Lyon’s recent drop-off in form has seen them pull off only two victories in their last five L1 home clashes (W2, D2, L1). In that sequence, Bruno Genesio’s men have scored just six goals, bagging over 1.5 goals per match once while keeping a clean sheet two times. Goals have been in short supply in Lyon’s recent home encounters, with six of their last seven L1 home outings producing under 2.5 goals per match.

Meanwhile, the visitors have entered this round with a four-game Ligue 1 winning run during which they’ve scored 17 goals while conceded just one. Still the only unbeaten L1 team (W18, D2), the Parisians are comfortably cruising towards the second successive league title as they currently have a 10-point lead over second-placed Lille despite playing three games less than the current runners-up. But, both of PSG’s two draws this campaign have arrived away from home, with both of them coming on their last three L1 road trips (W1, D2). Unsurprisingly, Thomas Tuchel’s players (25) have scored more goals on the road than any other side in the French top tier, managing an average of 2.78 goals scored per match so far, while conceding just seven goals at a miserly average of 0.78 goals conceded every game.
