Liverpool vs Newcastle United 14/09/19
14 September 2019
Saturday’s Premier League (PL) action starts at Anfield as Liverpool welcome take on Newcastle United looking to post their fourth consecutive win in H2Hs.
The hosts have got off to a flying start as they sit at the top of the table as the only team to win all four of their opening rounds of the PL fixtures. Two of those triumphs have come at home, and both have seen them score three or more goals and concede precisely one. With those two successes, the Reds have now won nine consecutive PL home games, all of which have seen them score at least two goals, while eight witnessed them restrict their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match. Another encouraging fact for the home fans is Liverpool’s home record against Newcastle since the turn of the millennium. The Merseyside giants have secured 14 wins in 18 H2Hs at this venue (W14, D4), preventing the Magpies from scoring in three of the last four.
Meanwhile, the visitors have endured a torrid start to the season, suffering back-to-back defeats, during which they’ve conceded four goals and scored just one. However, they are unbeaten in the last two PL outings (W1, D1), with both of those games featuring under 2.5 goals. Only one team has so far scored fewer goals than Newcastle (3), with two of those three goals arriving between the 25th and 45th minute. Interestingly, the Magpies have picked up three wins in their last five PL trips (W3, D1, L1), beating their rivals to nil each time – twice by the identical 1-0 scoreline.
