Liverpool vs Genk 06/11/19
6 November 2019
Liverpool welcome Group E rock-bottom side, Genk, to Anfield, looking to extend their UEFA Champions League (CL) winning run at home to six straight games.
Although the reigning champions started their European season off on the wrong foot, suffering a 2-0 away defeat to Napoli, they’ve managed to get back on track swiftly. The Reds have won both of their previous CL fixtures, scoring four goals apiece, although failing to keep a clean sheet in both of those triumphs. Another encouragement for the home fans is that Jurgen Klopp’s men have racked up a six-game winning home streak in the CL group stage, netting 22 goals along the way. Furthermore, the Merseyside giants have been ruthless against Belgian opponents, picking up five wins in their last six games against the Jupiler Pro League clubs (D1) and losing just one of 14 such fixtures (W11, D2).
On the other hand, winless in all 15 of their CL matches in the group stage, the visitors have picked up just one point in the opening three games this term. A goalless home draw with Napoli aside, they have lost both of their remaining matches in Group E, conceding over 3.5 goals in each and hitting the net at least once. What’s more, the reigning Belgian champions have suffered five consecutive defeats in the CL group stage, allowing at least five goals in the last three. Also, they have lost two of three European clashes against the Premier League sides (D1), going down at Chelsea (5-0) in their only previous trip to England.
