Liverpool vs Chelsea 14/04/19

14 April 2019

A massive Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Chelsea that takes place at Anfield this Sunday sees the Reds going after their first win over bitter rivals since 2016.

The hosts are not only unbeaten in their last 15 games across all competitions (W10, D5), but they come into this meeting after pulling off six straight competitive triumphs. Currently involved in the title run-in with Manchester City, the Merseysiders chase their fifth successive PL home win that would see them putting pressure on the reigning holders. Jurgen Klopp’s men proudly boast an almost perfect home record (W14, D2) as they remain the only team that has yet to lose at home this term. Furthermore, the Reds have notched 2+ match goals in 12 of 17 PL home outings while keeping nine clean sheets in the process – more than any other side in the English top tier. Outstandingly, Liverpool have bagged 4+ match goals in five of their previous eight PL home games, scoring under 1.5 goals per match only once in that sequence.

The visitors head into this weekend’s round of fixtures in third place as they aim to preserve their top-four status and return to the Champions League after a year of absence. The Blues have racked up a three-game PL winning streak in the build-up to this meeting, scoring 2+ match goals in each while keeping two clean sheets during the run. However, an indifferent PL road form since the turn of the year (W2, L4) could be a major setback for Maurizio Sarri, especially considering the fact his players have struggled to find the net in all four of their PL away losses in 2019. The one thing that can encourage the traveling side is that Liverpool failed to beat the Pensioners in all eight of their previous H2Hs at this venue (D5, L3).

Interestingly, all six of the previous H2H meetings between these two teams at Anfield have seen goals on both ends, with four of those games ending with the same 1-1 scoreline.
