Liverpool vs Cardiff City 27/10/18

27 October 2018

Liverpool are set to host Cardiff City at Anfield, looking for another routine victory that would see them keeping pace with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds have been outstanding this season in both the Premier League and the Champions League, as they are yet to lose a match in two most notable competitions. With a record of seven wins and two draws, they are sitting right behind the Citizens thanks to a slightly weaker goal difference. Before a scoreless draw with Guardiola’s side, the Merseysiders have clinched three successive home triumphs, keeping a clean sheet in all four matches in front of the home supporters. It was also the only time this season, Jurgen Klopp’s players have failed to bag a goal although it’s fair to say Salah, Mane, and Firmino are struggling to replicate last year’s performance. However, in midweek’s Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade, Liverpool outclassed the Serbian champions by four goals to nil, with Mo Salah notching his first season’s brace.

Meanwhile, the Premier League returnees seem to be heading back towards Championship, as they’ve lost six league encounters so far. However, a stunning 4-2 triumph over Fulham last weekend has ended Cardiff’s 5-game Premier League losing streak, allowing them to escape the relegation zone for at least one week. Still, Neil Warnock’s side has lost three out of four road matches, having been held to a scoreless draw to Huddersfield in the process. Besides, with 19 goals conceded so far, the Bluebirds have the second-worst defensive record in English top flight ,with 7 of these goals arrived away from the Cardiff City Stadium. Additionally, they’ve only scored once the road, which makes them the worst-attacking away side in England.
