Liverpool vs Napoli 29/07/19

29 July 2019

Napoli and Liverpool go head-to-head at the Murrayfield Stadium, but unlike last season when they faced off in the Champions League, this will be a friendly encounter.

Even though they’ve so far faced off three Italian lower-league teams this pre-season, the Partenopei have endured mixed fortunes (W1, D1, L1). All three of those matches have produced over 2.5 goals, with two of them seeing both teams score. Although seven of Napoli’s last games have featured over 2.5 goals, five of them have seen goals in both halves, with Carlo Ancelotti’s men scoring 2+ match goals seven times in the process. Still, Napoli’s fragile defense has struggled to keep a clean sheet seven times across the same period, allowing over 1.5 match goals on four occasions.

Meanwhile, the Reds have not enjoyed the best of times this summer, as they come into this meeting after failing to pick up a win in their last three summer friendlies (D1, L2). But, all three of those clashes have produced over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score. A sudden drop-off in form has seen Liverpool go from six consecutive triumphs to three games without a win, with Jurgen Klopp’s players netting 2+ match goals eight times along the way. Atypically for Liverpool’s solid backline, they have conceded over 2.5 match goals in five of their last ten outings, keeping a clean sheet four times though.
