Leganes vs Real Madrid 20/07/20
20 July 2020
Relegation-threatened Leganes entertain newly-crowned league champions, Real Madrid, at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in the final round of the 2019/20 La Liga fixtures.
Despite racking up four straight league matches without a loss (W3, D1), the hosts need to pick up three points here and hope Celta won’t beat rock-bottom Espanyol on the road to avoid relegation. Leganes’ recent upturn in form came as a result of a notable defensive improvement, as Los Pepineros have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four La Liga fixtures after previously failing to do so in eight of nine games prior. Yet, for Leganes, goals have been at a premium this calendar year. Javier Aguirre’s men have netted under 1.5 goals in 16 of 19 La Liga outings since the turn of the year, scoring an average of 0.68 goals across those encounters.
Meanwhile, a 2-1 home win over Villarreal last time out gave Real Madrid a tenth consecutive La Liga victory and helped them seal the league title with a game to spare. Notably, six of their triumphs during that ten-game sequence yielded a clean-sheet, with four of them coming after a goalless first half. In turn, Real’s rock-solid defense has conceded a league-low four first-half goals on the road this season. Despite failing to shut out Leganes in each of their last three top-flight away H2Hs (W2, D1), Los Blancos must be confident of winning as both of their successes in their previous such clashes produced a two-goal margin.
