Leganes vs Real Madrid 16/04/19

16 April 2019

Leganes and Real Madrid meet face-to-face at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque as the hosts hope to stretch their La Liga unbeaten streak to four games (W2, D1).

Sitting 13th with a nine-point lead over 18th-placed Valladolid, the hosts are on the verge of securing the top-flight status for another season. The main reason Leganes will remain in La Liga is their home record (W7, D6, L2), with 27 of their total of 40 LL points coming at home (67.50%). Furthermore, seven of Leganes’ ten LL wins have arrived at this venue, with five of those triumphs ending with the same 1-0 scoreline. However, Los Pepineros have struggled to impress in terms of goals, as just four of their 15 LL home outings have produced over 2.5 goals (27%), with Mauricio Pellegrino’s men netting 2+ match goals on only four occasions too. Just four teams have shipped fewer goals at home than Leganes (12) although the Madrid-based outfit preserved six clean slates in front of the home supporters.

Meanwhile, a genuinely underwhelming campaign for the visitors sees them sitting 14 points adrift of arch-rivals Barcelona with virtually no chance of closing the gap in the final stage of the season. A 2-1 loss to Valencia last time out has brought Los Blancos’ five-game LL road winning streak to an end, and it was also the first time Zinedine Zidane’s players have failed to score over 1.5 LL match goals away from home since the turn of the year. Real’s inability to keep a clean sheet has seen them conceded at least one goal in all 12 of their previous road clashes across all competitions, allowing 2+ match goals three times though. As a result of their defensive frailties and impressive attacking output, nine of their last 12 away games have featured 3+ match goals, with five of them produced over 3.5 goals.
