Leganes vs Getafe 18/01/20
18 January 2020
Relegation-threatened Leganes will go for their elusive first La Liga (LL) home triumph over Getafe when the two sides lock horns at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque this week.
A run of four league matches without a loss (W2, D2) has helped Leganes reduce the gap on 17th-placed Celta Vigo to a single point. The hosts’ upturn in results has coincided with their recent free-scoring form that has seen ‘Los Pepineros’ score over 1.5 goals in three of four matches during their unbeaten run. Although Javier Aguirre’s men already sustained six defeats in ten LL home fixtures (W3, D1), two of their three top-flight successes at the Municipal de Butarque have come in the last two games here. Curiously, Leganes have scored a total of five goals across those two victories, which equals their attacking output from the previous eight league home outings.
The visitors have suffered a dip in form on the eve of the Christmas break, going from six consecutive wins in all competitions to three straight defeats. Interestingly, six of those seven results (win/loss) have seen the winners on the day keep a clean sheet, with 42% of them coming via the identical 1-0 scoreline. By extension, four of Getafe’s six LL away results have arrived via a 1-0 score, with 78% of their league road fixtures featuring under 2.5 goals. Jose Bordalas’ main problem ahead of this trip is his team’s struggling for goals when away from home. They’ve netted an average of one goal per LL away match, drawing a blank in 33% of their road trips so far this season. Still, Getafe boast a good top-flight H2H record against Leganes (W2, D2, L1), with each of their last four meetings producing less than three goals.
