Leeds United vs Manchester City 04/10/20
4 October 2020
Elland Road is the venue as high-flying Leeds United welcome Manchester City for an exciting Premier League match-up.
A narrow 1-0 away win over Sheffield United last time out means that all three of Leeds’ Premier League matches this season have yielded a single-goal margin (W2, L1), though the previous two had produced the identical 4-3 scoreline. Interestingly, the winning goal in two of those results (wins/loss) has come no earlier than the 88-minute mark. Taking their home record from the final stage of the 2019/20 campaign into the account, Marcelo Bielsa’s men are unbeaten in ten consecutive competitive home games (W8, D2), with seven of those wins being accompanied by a clean sheet. In turn, the ‘Whites’ have won both of their previous two top-flight H2Hs held at this venue, although it’s worth noting that the last such clash dates back to 2004.
Meanwhile, Manchester City will be looking to erase the memory of a disastrous 5-2 home defeat to Leicester City last time out that has undone a comfortable 3-1 away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Curiously, both of City’s opening Premier League fixtures have produced over 1.5 goals in each half, featuring at least one goal beyond the 80-minute mark. Notably, none of the visitors’ ten league trips this calendar year has ended in a draw (W6, L4), with 70% (seven) of those results seeing the winner on the day preserve a blank sheet. Perhaps surprisingly, but Pep Guardiola’s men developed a habit of falling behind without recovering, losing all six of their Premier League away games in which they conceded the opening goal back in 2019/20.
