Lazio vs Juventus 28/01/19
28 January 2019
Sunday’s Serie A action concludes with a derby clash at the Stadio Olimpico that sees the Champions League promotion contestants Lazio taking on the league leaders Juventus.
Unable to maintain consistency for the majority of the campaign (W9, D5, L6), the Biancocelesti currently trail fourth-placed AC Milan by two points. But, unbeaten in their last five Serie A home outings (W2, D3), the Eagles hope to bring a frustrating five-game home losing streak against Juventus to an end and possibly secure their first Serie A home triumph over big rivals since 2003. Simone Inzaghi’s principal worry ahead of this meeting is that his players failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine home clashes in all competitions, conceding over 1.5 goals per match three times in the process. Lazio boss will instead rely on his attack that has scored in eight consecutive competitive home games, bagging over 1.5 goals per match five times in that period.
Records just keep falling around Juventus, who now look to extend their outstanding 20-game unbeaten Serie A run and remain the only unbeaten side in the Italian top tier. Quite comfortable on the road, the reigning holders have already secured 25 points away from home, with Atalanta being the only side to dodge failure on home soil against Juventus so far. No Italian team has conceded fewer goals on the road than Juventus (6), with Massimiliano Allegri’s men keeping a clean sheet five times on nine Serie A road trips this term. Almost impeccable at the back, the Bianconeri have kept a clean sheet in ten of their last 13 competitive meetings. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo and his fellow teammates have scored exactly two goals per match in six of nine Serie A road clashes, notching over 2.5 goals per game twice in the process.
