Lazio vs Atalanta 01/10/20

01 October 2020

Familiar foes will lock horns at the Stadio Olimpico this midweek, as Lazio meet Atalanta for a potentially high-scoring Serie A affair. Each of their last three top-flight H2Hs has seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.

Lazio got off to a flying Serie A start, beating Cagliari 2-0 on the road in their curtain-raiser, which now means that none of their previous six league matches has ended in a draw, last season included (W4, L2). Curiously, all of those six results (wins/losses) have seen the winner on the day score 2+ goals, with the previous four yielding a full-time margin of over 1.5 goals. In turn, going back to February, none of Lazio’s seven home Serie A games has produced a stalemate (W5, L2), with four of those fixtures seeing the winning side come from behind the seal all three points. But, it could be a daunting prospect for the ‘Biancocelesti’ to get away with a victory, considering they’ve failed to defeat Atalanta in all three of their previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (D2, L1).

As for the visitors, they were relentless against Torino in their opening game of the season, securing a 4-2 triumph despite conceding an early opener. In fact, Atalanta’s ability to recover after falling behind saw them lose just one out of seven away Serie A matches in which they shipped the opening goal back in 2019/20 (W3, D3). What’s more, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men are hard to get back against when they take a first-half lead, having won ten out of 13 league games in which they were leading at half-time last season (W10, D2, L1). ‘La Dea’ can also find some comfort in the fact they’ve score precisely three goals apiece in all three of their previous top-flight h2H meetings (W2, D1).
