Lazio vs AS Roma 02/09/19
2 September 2019
Lazio and AS Roma go head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico for the 173rd competitive Derby della Capitale.
Fresh from a 3-0 away win over Sampdoria in the opening matchday, the ‘hosts’ will look to post their second straight win over arch-rivals following a commanding 3-0 triumph last season. Five of Lazio’s previous six home games have featured over 2.5 goals and seen both teams score, but the Biancocelesti oversaw partial success across those games (W2, D2, L2). Three of those four failures were followed by a similar scenario that saw Lazio taking the lead before tumbling down later on to return just two points. Although unbeaten in their last two Serie A (SA) home H2Hs with Roma (W1, D1), the Eagles have lost all three of their previous meetings when placed as hosts, all of which have seen them concede two or more goals and score one or less.
Meanwhile, the ‘visitors’ were held to a 3-3 home draw by Genoa in the SA curtain-raiser although they were on the front foot three times in that clash. The Giallorossi are hopeful that they can improve on a run of poor away form from the final stage of last season that has seen them pick up just one triumph in six SA trips (W1, D3, L2). A lack of goals was Roma’s main issue in that sequence, as they scored one goal or less across all of those six matches, allowing over 1.5 match goals twice though. Also, Roma’s defensive frailties saw them keep a clean sheet just four times in their last 15 SA trips, which may trouble Paulo Fonseca ahead of this massive weekend’s showdown.
