Kilmarnock vs Celtic 09/08/20

09 August 2020

High-flying Celtic travel to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock, looking to post a seventh consecutive triumph in their Scottish Premiership H2Hs.

A 2-1 away defeat to Hibernian in their 2020/21 curtain-raiser has stretched Kilmarnock’s winless Premiership run to five games (D1, L4), last season included. Three of those four defeats produced a single-goal margin and saw the home side concede the opening goal. Yet, Rugby Park has been a venue of entertainment this calendar year, as all five of Kilmarnock’s top-flight home fixtures since the calendar flipped have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W2, D1, L2). Curiously, both of their wins during that five-game sequence saw the ‘Killie’ pull off a second-half comeback after trailing their visitors 1-0 at halftime.

Meanwhile, reigning champions have got off to a flying start to the new league season, thrashing Hamilton 5-1 at home to maintain an almost perfect Premiership record in 2020 (W10, D1). Notably, nine of those ten victories have produced a full-time margin of at least two goals and witnessed Celtic scoring over 2.5 match goals. Additionally, the ‘Bhoys’ have kept a clean sheet in five of those ten successes, restricting their opponents to precisely one goal per game in four of the other five. Impressively, the ‘Hoops’ have won 28 of their 35 top-flight trips to Kilmarnock in the 21st century (D3, L4), although two of those four defeats arrived in the last four visits (W2).
