Kawasaki Frontale will be looking to grab a fourth consecutive J1 League home win over Vegalta Sendai when the two clubs meet at the Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium this weekend.

Despite entering this round on the back of a dismal 2-0 home loss to Tokyo in the YBC Levain Cup, the hosts are enjoying an intimidating eight-game winning league run. Remarkably, seven of those triumphs have seen Kawasaki score over 2.5 goals and open the scoring before the half-time break. Toru Oniki’s men have been equally impressive at home this season, as they take the field as the only side yet to lose a J1 League match as hosts (W9, D1). Curiously, 66.67% of their home victories this term has seen Kawasaki fail to keep a clean sheet (6/9), as was the case in 84.62% of their wins in competitive home H2Hs since the turn of the century.

While 66.67% of Kawasaki’s J1 League home triumphs so far yielded a full-time margin of 2+ goals, 80% of Vegalta Sendai’s top-flight away fixtures have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W2, D3, L5). Yet, the visitors go into this encounter winless in six away league matches (D2, L4), conceding over 1.5 goals four times in the process. Unfortunately for Sendai, they have shipped the opening goal in a league second-high seven trips this term, failing to return a single win from such games (D3, L4). That’s due to a lack of firepower in the final third that rates Takashi Kiyama’s side as the division’s fourth joint-worst away attack (12 goals scored on the road).
