Juventus vs Torino 04/07/20

04 July 2020

The 202nd official Derby della Mole that will take place at the Allianz Stadium this weekend sees in-form Juventus pursuing an 10th straight Serie A game without a loss against out-of-sorts Torino (W7, D2).

Six consecutive Serie A triumphs, five of which yielded a margin of two goals or more, have helped Juventus extend their lead over second-placed Lazio to four points. By far, the most impressive home team in Italy’s top-flight, the perennial champions have won all but one of their 14 Serie A home fixtures this season (D1), seven of which produced at least a two-goal margin. In fact, Maurizio Sarri’s men have averaged 2.5 goals scored per league home game this season, which makes them the division’s third-best attacking home side. Juve’s tendency to step up their game after the halftime break has seen the Turin-based outfit net 62.86% (22) of the 35 Serie A home goal scored in the second half of play.

On the other hand, the visitors have lost eight of their ten previous Serie A fixtures (W1, D1), including the last two, conceding over 1.5 goals on seven of those occasions. Furthermore, the ‘Maroons’ have suffered five consecutive defeats ahead of this cross-town trip, scoring one goal or less in four of those failures. Also, Torino’s inability to bounce back after allowing the opening goal has seen them lose all eight of their Serie A away games in which they’ve shipped the first goal. It will be a daunting prospect for Torino to improve that disappointing record here, given that they’ve failed to beat arch-rivals in 13 of their last top-flight away H2Hs (D4, L9).
