Juventus vs Sampdoria 21/09/20

21 September 2020

Juventus will be seeking their third consecutive Serie A win over Sampdoria when the two sides lock horns at the Allianz Stadium this weekend.

Quick-fire Juventus opened the scoring in a league-high 17 home matches last season and went on to win 15 such fixtures (W15, D1, L1). Dropping the lead was not an option for the hosts back in 2019/20, as they won all nine of their Serie A home fixtures in which they were on the front foot at half-time. Though Juventus had a win-rate of 84.21% at home last season, almost half (43.75%) of those victories yielded a narrow one-goal margin (7/16). On the flip side, the ‘Bianconeri’ have won all five of their previous top-flight H2Hs held in Turin, four of which came via at least a two-goal margin and saw Juve win the first half ‘to nil.’

Meanwhile, the visitors have been a pretty exciting team to watch on the road this calendar year. Seven of Sampdoria’s 11 Serie A trips since the turn of 2020 have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. But, slow-starting Sampdoria conceded the opening goal in 12 of their 19 Serie A away games back in 2019/20, with none of those fixtures ending in a draw (W3, L9). Keeping a clean sheet sounds like a mission impossible for ‘Il Doria’ given they’ve failed to shut out their hosts on the day in all ten of their previous league trips, conceding over 1.5 goals on six of those occasions.
