Juventus vs Atletico Madrid 27/11/19

27 November 2019

While Juventus can secure first place in the UEFA Champions League (CL) Group D with a victory over Atletico Madrid, the visitors can secure the knockout stage promotion if they pull off a win at the Allianz Stadium.

After a 2-2 away draw with the Spanish giants in the reverse fixture, the hosts have racked up a three-game CL winning streak to move top of the group, as they now sit three points clear of second-placed Atletico. Interestingly, both of their previous CL triumphs have come via the identical 2-1 scoreline, with Juventus scoring the winner inside the final 13 minutes. Since moving to the new stadium, the reigning Serie A champions have suffered just four defeats in 40 European fixtures (W24, D12, L4). Also, they have lost only one of their previous 12 home clashes against the Spanish visitors (W7, D4, L1). They are unlikely to lose here either, as they’ve not conceded a single goal in both of their last home H2Hs with Atletico (W1, D1).

Meanwhile, the visitors will be looking to bounce back following a 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen that currently puts them four points above third-placed Lokomotiv Moscow, with two group matches left to go. Curiously, all three goals Los Colchoneros have scored away from home in the CL this term have come in the second half. But, it will be a daunting prospect for Atletico to win here, as they’ve sustained three defeats in their last five European away fixtures (W1, D1, L3). They have not only drawn a blank in two of those failures, but they’ve also conceded at least two goals in all three.
