Jamaica vs United States 04/06/19

4 July 2019

Jamaica and the United States will face-off at the Nissan Stadium in the Gold Cup semi-finals, with the Reggae Boyz looking to break into their third successive Gold Cup final.

Unbeaten since the beginning of the competition (W2, D2), the Jamaicans have secured their place in the semi-finals thanks to a 1-0 win over Panama. But, ever since a 3-2 win over Honduras on the opening matchday, the Reggae Boyz have slowed down, with all three of their remaining matches at the Gold Cup featuring under 2.5 goals, with none of them seeing a goal in the first half. What’s more, six of Jamaica’s seven games in 2019 have produced under 2.5 goals, with just one seeing both teams score. Still, Theodore Whitmore’s men now go after their second straight win over the United States after beating the USMNT 1-0 in their last warm-up game before taking participation in the competition.

Meanwhile, the Stars and Stripes have been outstanding at the tournament so far, having pulled off four wins in as many outings. Notably, all of those triumphs have seen the USMNT beat their rivals to nil while taking the lead before the halftime whistle on three occasions during the run. Additionally, all seven of the USA’s wins in 2019 have seen them keep a clean sheet, with three of them ending with the same 1-0 scoreline. But, the defending champions have endured mixed fortunes in their last five H2Hs with Jamaica (W3, L2), with four of those clashes being settled by a narrow one-goal margin.
