Inter Milan vs PSV Eindhoven 12/10/18
12 December 2018
Inter Milan welcome PSV Eindhoven to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the final fixture of the Champions League group stage in what will be their most important match of the season so far.
Sitting third in Group B with seven points after the opening five Champions League games, the Nerazzurri now have to beat the Dutch side and hope Barcelona won’t lose to Tottenham Hotspur at home. After making an impressive start of their European campaign which has seen them securing two outstanding wins over Tottenham and PSV, the Milanese giants have failed to replicate the same displays in the next three rounds. Having suffered a 2-0 road loss to Barcelona and a narrow 1-0 defeat against the Spurs at Wembley, the only point Luciano Spalletti’s men have achieved in their last three European outings was the one against the Blaugrana at home. Spalleti’s main problem ahead of this meeting is the fact his players have struggled to keep a clean sheet in their opening five Champions League games, as well as, in their last two Serie A clashes.
Nailed to the bottom of the table, the visitors are the only team in Group B that have failed to secure a victory after the opening five games. Furthermore, the Farmers have lost four of their European encounters, while holding Tottenham to a 2-2 draw at home. Not only they’ve got just one point thus far, but Mark van Bommel’s players have conceded exactly two goals in all of their last four Champions League clashes after suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Barcelona on the opening matchday. However, the reigning Dutch champions have scored in each European match since the Champions League opener, including the one they’ve notched against the Catalans at home last time out. Additionally, the Red and Whites come into this encounter highly motivated following an outstanding 6-0 victory over Excelsior in the domestic championship.
