Inter Milan vs Chievo Verona 14/05/19
14 May 2019
Two sides with different destinies ahead of them will face-off at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza as Inter Milan come face-to-face with Chievo Verona for the final game of this weekend’s Serie A round of fixtures.
Sitting just one point clear of fifth-placed AC Milan, the hosts have to secure a victory here to boost their chances of reaching the Champions League promotion. However, the Milanese giants come into this encounter after playing out three straight SA draws, with all of those games featuring under 2.5 goals. What’s more, the Nerazzurri have failed to secure a triumph in all four of their previous SA home outings (D3, L1), with Luciano Spalletti’s men scoring one goal or less across all of those games while restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match. Spalletti’s main worry ahead of this clash could be Inter’s struggling in the final third that has seen them net just 23 goals in 17 SA home games at a miserly average of 1.35 goals scored per match. Still, no team has shipped fewer home goals than Inter (9) with the Nerazzurri nine clean sheets at home this term.
On the other hand, the visitors are heading towards Serie B following an underwhelming SA campaign that has seen them pick up barely two wins in 35 league outings (W2, D12, L21). A shock 2-1 away triumph over Lazio last time out has been Chievo’s first road victory this season (W1, D6, L10) as they remain the second-worst traveling side in the Italian top tier. Also, I Gialloblu’s tally of 11 goals scored on the road is SA’s low, with Domenico Di Carlo’s players struggling to find the net in nine of 17 SA away clashes this term. Things go from bad to worse for the Flying Donkeys as they’ve conceded 36 away goals so far, which makes them the second-worst defensive away team in Serie A.
