Inter Milan vs Atalanta

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza sets the stage for a mouth-watering Serie A encounter between Inter Milan and Atalanta.

Inter Milan bounced back from a frustrating 2-2 draw at Genoa on matchday one with a 2-0 home victory against Lecce last weekend. Simone Inzaghi’s men scored on either side of halftime in both opening rounds and will look to translate their free-flowing attacking form to this fixture. ‘I Nerazzurri’ completed a league double over Atalanta last season, extending their winning H2H streak to four matches. It’s their longest run against ‘La Dea’ since December 2021, while it’s also worth noting that they bagged 12 goals during that stretch, including four in this corresponding fixture in February (4-0). Another triumph is well on the cards, considering the reigning Serie A champions have only lost one home league outing since the start of the 2023/24 season (W15, D4, L1).

On the other hand, Atalanta failed to build on a thumping 4-0 win at Lecce on the opening weekend, throwing away a first-half lead in a 2-1 away defeat to Torino last time out. Gian Piero Gasperini can draw confidence from his side’s fast starts, with ‘La Dea’ breaking the deadlock in the first half in both league games this term. However, the visitors are staring down the barrel of two consecutive Serie A defeats for the first time since losing four in a row in March. One of those losses ominously came against Inter, but Atalanta’s four-game winning away league run before last week’s defeat in Turin can inspire confidence around Gasperini’s camp. The fact they’ve not won a top-flight match away at Inter since March 2014 cannot (D3, L7).
