Hertha BSC vs Eintracht Frankfurt 26/09/20

26 September 2020

Hertha BSC and Eintracht Frankfurt will lock horns at the Olympiastadion in a potentially high-scoring Bundesliga affair, as both of their previous top-flight H2Hs have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams score.

A 4-1 thrashing of Werder Bremen on Matchday 1 will give Hertha some confidence ahead of their clash against a side they’ve failed to beat in three of their previous Bundesliga H2Hs (D2, L1). Interestingly, both of the hosts’ competitive matches this season have seen over 4.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Notably, ‘Die Alte Dame’ have either been winning or losing at home with clarity this calendar year, as all seven of their Bundesliga home results (wins/losses) since the turn of 2020 have yielded at least a two-goal margin. Also, none of their last five top-flight H2Hs held at this stadium has ended in a draw (W3, L2), with each win seeing Hertha keep a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, the visitors played out a 1-1 home draw with newly-promoted Arminia Bielefeld on the opening matchday of the season after running out 2-1 winners against Munchen 1860 in the DFB Pokal. Curiously, Eintracht registered a vast majority (86.96%) of the Bundesliga away goals scored in the second half of play back in 2019/20 (20/23), finishing the season with a league-low three first-half goals netted. It’s, therefore, not strange that they conceded the opening goal in 12 (70.59%) of 17 league trips the last term, returning only five points from such fixtures (W1, D2, L9). Also, Adi Hutter’s men managed to avoid defeat after trailing at half-time only twice in eight Bundesliga road matches in 2019/20 (W1, D1, L7).
