Hertha BSC vs Augsburg 30/05/20
30 May 2020
Hertha BSC and Augsburg will lock horns at the Olympiastadion this weekend, as the traveling side seek their first-ever Bundesliga (BL) victory at this venue (D5, L2).
The hosts are enjoying a five-game unbeaten league run (W2, D3), and another possible success here might help them return in contention for European qualification as they trail sixth-placed Wolfsburg by seven points. In order to maintain that form, Bruno Labbadia’s players will have to find a way to score first, as they won three of four league games in which they’ve opened the scoring since the turn of the year (W3, D1). Also, ‘Die Alte Dame’ have hit a free-scoring form lately, having notched up over 1.5 goals in five consecutive BL outings. Hertha’s BL fixtures since the beginning of February have overseen a lot of action, with all eight of their top-flight outings since producing over 2.5 goals.
On the other hand, the visitors seem to have managed to put a disastrous six-game winless league streak behind (D1, L5), avoiding defeat in their last two BL matches (W1, D1). Importantly for the ‘Fuggerstädter’, they’ve now kept a clean sheet two times in a row for the first time this season. Last weekend’s 3-0 away victory over Schalke has brought Augsburg’s five-game losing BL road run to a halt, and it was the first time since early November that they’ve kept a blank sheet away from home. Indeed, Augsburg’s leaky defense has conceded over 1.5 goals in six successive league travels before their trip to Schalke, allowing a total of 16 goals across those fixtures.
