Haiti vs Canada 30/06/19
30 June 2019
Haiti come face-to-face with Canada at the NRG Stadium in Houston for their Gold Cup quarter-finals clash hoping to seal their place in the semi-finals for the first time since 1977.
Impressively, Les Grenadiers have finished top of Group B as one of three nations to secure all three wins in the group stage. Interestingly, all of their triumphs at the competition have seen them score precisely two goals per match while two of them saw Haiti overcoming a one-goal deficit from the first half. Although they are now on a run of four straight triumphs, Les Bicolores will face a daunting prospect of beating Canada to whom they’ve lost in all four of their previous H2H meetings. Notably, all of those matches have ended with the same 2-0 scoreline, with the last two coming at the Gold Cup.
Meanwhile, the Canucks have finished as Group A runners-up with a record of two wins and a loss. Interestingly, all three of Canada’s outings in the group stage have featured over 3.5 goals, with John Herdman’s men netting 12 goals while conceding three in the process. All three of those conceded goals have come in a 3-1 defeat to Mexico, while Les Rouges outplayed Martinique 4-0 and Cuba 7-0, netting precisely three goals in the second half in both of those games. A failure against Mexico aside, the Canadians have been impressive in defense over the past 15 months, keeping seven clean sheets in nine matches across that period.
