Granada vs Atletico Madrid 24/11/19
24 November 2019
Atletico Madrid travel to the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes to take on out-of-form Granada, looking clinch second successive La Liga (LL) win for the first time since early September.
Granada’s electric start to the season seems to be fading away, as the hosts lost all three of their league matches ahead of the international break, conceding at least two goals in each. They now face a side they’ve lost to in ten of their previous 11 top-flight H2Hs (D1, L10). Frustratingly for the returnees, they have drawn a blank in nine of those clashes, scoring precisely one goal per match in the remaining two. What’s more, the ‘Nazaríes’ have netted one goal or less in five of six LL home outings so far, with just six of their total 19 league goals scored coming on home turf (31%). Interestingly, none of Granada’s home games since returning to the top-flight has ended in a draw (W4, L2), with four of those results (win/loss) coming via the same 1-0 scoreline (W3, L1).
As for the visitors, they come into this meeting after putting together nine consecutive LL games without a loss (W3, D6), looking to bring a three-game away winless run to a halt (D3). Unusually for Diego Simeone’s side, none of their six LL away games has featured more than two goals, with just two seeing both teams score. Also, Atletico’s away game usually sparks into life after the break, with four of their five LL road goals scored coming in the second half. Los Colchoneros’ fourth away clean sheet of the season is on the cards here though, as they’ve shut out Granada in five of their last six trips to the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.
