Getafe vs Valencia 08/02/20

8 February 2020

Rocked by the Copa del Rey elimination to Granada, Valencia return to La Liga (LL) action this weekend as they travel to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez to take on Getafe.

The hosts have overseen an upturn in results lately, going from three straight defeats in all competitions to three consecutive league wins, with all of those matches seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. In turn, all nine of Getafe’s last LL results (win/loss) have witnessed the winning side shut out the losing one, with 66.67% (six) of them featuring under 2.5 goals. The ‘clean-sheet’ theme is very much in line with Getafe’s recent LL home fixtures. Indeed, just one of their previous eight league home games has seen both teams on the scoresheet (W5, D1, L2), with only 25% (two) of those clashes featuring over 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors have picked up three wins in their previous four LL outings (L1), beating their rivals ‘to nil’ on each of those occasions. However, Valencia’s indifferent away form (W2, D1, L2) could be a major influence here, especially considering they’ve failed to keep a blank sheet in all of those matches. The Oranges usually turn on their engines after the break, with 64% (nine) of their 14 LL away goals scored coming in the second half. Therefore, it’s not strange that they’ve opened the scoring in just three of ten league road trips so far this season. But, if they concede the opener here, there may not be a comeback for Valencia, as all three of their previous competitive trips to Getafe ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline (W1, L2).
