Getafe vs Real Madrid

La Liga title hopefuls Real Madrid take a relatively short trip to the Coliseum to meet out-of-form Getafe in a must-win clash.

After losing three of their last four La Liga outings (W1), Getafe risk falling out of the top-half picture, with their hopes of European qualification next term fading fast. Even more worrying for José Bordalás’ men is that the last two defeats, including last weekend’s setback against Espanyol (1-0), came against sides below them. Furthermore, they’re still not mathematically clear of relegation danger. Form at Estadio Coliseum hasn’t offered much relief either, with the Azulones winning just one of their last seven home league games (D2, L4). That sole victory came against Atlético Madrid, offering a glimmer of optimism as they prepare for another capital clash, this time with Real Madrid.

However, history isn’t on Getafe’s side, with Real Madrid winning seven of their ten away H2Hs (D2, L1), including two in a row without conceding. Extending their superb away run against Getafe is imperative for Los Blancos as they trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points despite beating Athletic Bilbao 1-0 last weekend. On the bright side, Carlo Ancelotti’s charges have regained their feet on the road after a troubled spell. Indeed, after going three league away games without a win (D1, L2), they’ve now picked up back-to-back victories – both by narrow margins – while they scored at least once in the opening 35 minutes on each occasion.
