Getafe vs Atletico Madrid 17/07/20
17 July 2020
Getafe and Atletico Madrid will lock horns at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez this midweek in what may as well be a low-scoring La Liga affair. None of their ten previous top-flight H2Hs has seen over 2.5 goals nor both teams on the scoresheet, with Atletico coming off better on all of those occasions.
A 0-0 away draw with Alaves earlier this week now means that the hosts failed to find the net in three of their last four La Liga outings (D2, L2), with each of those fixtures producing a goalless first half. In turn, Getafe’s home action usually sparks into life after the break, as 65.12% of their total La Liga home goals scored/conceded this season arrived in the second half (28/43). However, a genuine lack of firepower in the final third has seen Getafe draw a blank in four of eight league home matches this calendar year, keeping their average for the season at 1.38 goals scored per La Liga home fixture. Jose Bordalas’ men seem pretty unlikely to improve that record any time soon, as they take on a side they’ve failed to score against in each of their last six top-flight H2Hs held at this stadium (D1, L5).
Meanwhile, the visitors head into this clash on the back of an impressive 14-games unbeaten run in La Liga (W8, D6), with five of those victories yielding a single-goal margin. Indeed, if Los Colchoneros win here, they seem likely to do it in tight fashion considering 70.59% (12) of their 17 La Liga wins this season came by a narrow one-goal margin. The ‘clean-sheet’ theme will be equally important, as four of Atletico’s five league triumphs on the road saw them shut out their opponent. Yet, Diego Simeone will be keen to see his side improve their second-half defending that led to Atletico ship 62.5% of their La Liga away goals conceded after the break (10/16).
