Getafe vs Athletic Club
Estadio Coliseum sets the stage for an exciting La Liga showdown between Getafe and Athletic Club.
An underwhelming five-game losing streak in La Liga washed away Getafe’s hopes of securing European football for next season while slightly compromising their survival hopes. However, they’re only one win away from cementing their top-flight status. That may sound easy, yet Getafe’s well-documented scoring woes have seen them fail to get on the scoresheet in four of those five outings – three of which ended in 1-0 defeats. Eager to bounce back from a 3-0 rout at the hands of Valencia, El Geta will look to tip an evenly balanced 15-game H2H record in La Liga into their favor (W2, D11, L2). However, Jose Bordalas’ men have only won once in their last ten meetings on home turf (D5, L4).
Meanwhile, Athletic Club squeaked past Basque rivals Alaves last weekend to bounce back from a dreadful Europa League semi-final defeat to Manchester United and return to winning ways after three consecutive winless games (D1, L2). Another win, combined with favorable results elsewhere, would see Los Leones secure Champions League qualification with two games to spare. Either way, they should lock down a coveted top-five finish. However, Ernesto Valverde’s men have failed to win any of their last five away matches across all competitions (D3, L2). Indeed, they’ve not won on the road since mid-March against Sevilla, failing to find the back of the net in four of their subsequent five travels.
