Germany vs Serbia 21/03/19
21 March 2019
Germany and Serbia will play an international friendly at the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg as part of their preparations for the upcoming challenges in the European Championship Qualifiers.
The two last met in 2010 in South Africa when Serbia pulled off a narrow 1-0 triumph in the World Cup group stage.
The hosts are enduring one of the most challenging times in their recent history. Not only they’ve failed to go past the group stage in the summer’s World Cup as reigning champions, but they have also finished dead-last in their respective UEFA Nations League group, behind the Netherlands and France. Although Die Mannschaft won both of their friendlies in the post-World Cup period, they have struggled to pick up a victory in all four of their competitive outings (D2, L2). Unlike some previous years, Germany’s main problem at this point seems to be a shaky backline that has failed to preserve a clean slate in four of their last five games, allowing 2+ match goals three times in the process.
Meanwhile, after the World Cup exit, the visitors have racked up a six-game unbeaten run (W4, D2). What’s more, the Eagles go into this meeting off the back of two successive victories, in which they’ve scored six goals while conceding two during the run. Interestingly, Serbia are undefeated in their last six away clashes (W4, D2) having bagged eight goals while conceding barely one along the way. Still, for Serbia goals have been in short supply six of their previous road encounters producing under 2.5 goals. But, thanks to the likes of Dusan Tadic and Aleksandar Mitrovic, Mladen Krstajic’s men have scored over 1.5 goals per match four times in their last five games, breaking the deadlock inside the opening 30 minutes in three.
