Germany vs Netherlands 07/09/19

7 September 2019

Germany take on the Netherlands at the Volksparkstadion in the UEFA European Championship qualification clash of titans.

The hosts have won all three of their opening games in Group C, two of which have been accompanied by a clean sheet. As a result, they are now unbeaten in six consecutive matches, friendlies included (W4, D2), with half of those games seeing both teams score. Free-scoring Germans have netted over 1.5 match goals in five of those games, bagging a total of 19 goals on an average of 3.16 goals scored per match. Virtually untenable when at home, Germany won 24 of their last 28 competitive home games (W24, D4), with their last competitive home defeat dating back to 2007. Die Mannschaft traditionally struggle against the Netherlands, as although they’ve lost just two of their previous ten H2Hs, they’ve pulled off only three wins in that sequence (W3, D5, L2).

Meanwhile, the visitors will be eager to bounce back after a 3-2 loss in the reversed fixture, especially as they also missed out on winning the UEFA Nations League in the meantime (1-0 loss to Portugal in the final). But, the Oranje’s struggling for form when away from home could be a major influence here as they’ve failed to pick up a win in five of their last six trips in all competitions (W1, D1, L4). All five of those failures have seen Holland concede the opener and fail to bounce back later on, with four of those fixtures seeing Ronald Koeman’s men allow two or more goals.
