Germany vs Estonia 12/06/19

12 June 2019

Germany will look to stretch their winning streak to three games when they host Estonia to Opel Arena for their Euro 2020 qualification match.

After finishing bottom of their respective group of the UEFA Nations League, the hosts have improved at the beginning of their European Championship Qualifiers, securing two away wins over the Netherlands and Belarus. Now unbeaten in their last five outings (W3, D2), Die Mannschaft look to maintain the free-scoring form that has seen them net 2+ match goals in four of their previous five games. Their home fans can also be encouraged by the fact Germany have racked up a six-game unbeaten home run ahead of this fixture (W3, D3), although two of those wins have come in friendly meetings. But, Joachim Löw will be desperate to see his team improving in defensive aspect also, as Germany struggled to keep a blank sheet in six of nine matches since returning from Russia.

Still with nul points in this European Championship Qualifier, the visitors have suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening two matches in Group C, conceding four goals while scoring one in the process. Two of three wins Blueshirts have achieved over the past ten months have come in friendlies, with their only competitive triumph across that period arrived against Greece on the road. When engaged in a competitive battle, Martin Reim’s men have been often outplayed by their respective rivals, with Estonia sustaining six defeats in their last nine competitive games (W1, D1, L6). What’s more, they have failed to find the net across five of those matches, scoring one goal or less in two of the remaining three outings in that span.
