Genoa vs Inter Milan 04/04/19
4 April 2019
Rocked by a narrow 1-0 home loss to Lazio, Inter Milan travel to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to meet a struggling Genoa side.
The hosts’ sudden drop-off in form has seen them pick up just one win in their last five Serie A fixtures (W1, D2, L2). The main reason for Genoa’s poor results in the recent period is their uninspiring attack that has failed to hit the net in four of five games in March. Just two of the Rossoblu’s previous eight SA home clashes have produced over 2.5 goals although four saw goals on both ends. Cesare Prandelli’s men have experienced mixed fortunes facing SA’s top-five sides at home (W2, L2), scoring exactly two goals in both wins while conceding exactly two in both failures. Interestingly, Genoa’s slow start to home games has seen them failed to grab the lead before the half-time break in ten of 15 SA home outings so far.
With their Champions League promotion hopes compromised by the likes of AC Milan, Roma, Atalanta, and Lazio, the visitors are obliged to make the most out of this encounter although it seems to be a daunting prospect judging on their previous visits to this venue. The Nerazzurri have lost all five of their last H2Hs with Genoa here, failing to find the back of the net in each of their last three visits. Another troubling fact for Luciano Spalletti is Inter’s indifferent road form this term (W7, D3, L5), with the Milanese giants failing to wrap up all three points on three of their last five SA road trips (W2, D1, L2). Unprolific attack and stubborn defense are the reasons five of Inter’s last eight away fixtures have produced under 2.5 goals although it’s fair to say all three of their previous SA road meetings saw three or more goals.
