Galatasaray vs Real Madrid 23/10/19

23 October 2019

Real Madrid are in trouble in Group A and will be looking to kick-start their UEFA Champions League campaign against Galatasaray at the Türk Telekom Stadium.

After being held to a goalless away draw to Club Brugge in the curtain-raiser, the hosts have suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid at home, extending their winless run in Europe’s top-tier competition to seven straight matches (D2, L5). Frustratingly for the home fans, six of those games have seen Galatasaray draw a blank, while three witnessed them concede 2+ match goals. What’s more, the Yellow-Reds have won just one of their last 17 European clashes (D6, L10), although that one victory has come on home soil. A 3-2 home win over Sivasspor in the Super Lig last weekend has helped the Lions end a disappointing five-game winless streak in all competitions (D4, L1), which can be the only consolation for the home side.

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured a dismal start to their CL campaign, failing to pick up a win in both of their opening matches of the competition (D1, L1). A 3-0 away loss to Paris Saint-Germain and a 2-2 home draw with Club Brugge mean that Los Blancos have now conceded over 1.5 match goals in four of their last five CL fixtures (W1, D1, L3). However, La Liga giants have won 14 of 23 of their previous CL trips (D4, L5), although two of those five defeats have come in their last five CL away fixtures. Zinedine Zidane will be desperate to see his team bounce back after a shock 1-0 away loss to Mallorca in the Spanish championship that brought their five-game unbeaten run in all competitions to a halt (W3, D2).
