Freiburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt

It’s a ‘make or break’ time at the Europa-Park Stadion as Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt square off in a Bundesliga top-four six-pointer.

A high-stakes contest in the Black Forest could see Freiburg lock down a place in the Champions League for the first time in club history as they fight direct top-four rivals on the final day. Anything other than victory could see the home team squander another glorious chance to dine out at Europe’s top table, with fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund lagging only one point behind. However, Freiburg’s form has peaked at the perfect moment, with Julian Schuster’s side bookending an impressive five-game unbeaten league streak (W4, D1) with a 2-1 triumph at Holstein Kiel last weekend. The pressure is still on the hosts, whose recent home record cannot inspire much confidence, considering they’ve dropped points in four of their last five top-flight outings at the Europa-Park Stadion (W1, D2, L2). 

On the other hand, Eintracht Frankfurt’s first top-three finish in the Bundesliga this century is nearly a done deal, as simply avoiding defeat here would see them achieve this feat. Two points clear of their upcoming rivals, Dino Toppmoller’s charges take this trip in a buoyant mood after only losing once in their last ten Bundesliga meetings with Freiburg (W4, D5). Furthermore, a thumping 4-1 win in the reverse fixture means Die Adler can complete their first top-flight double over Freiburg since 2018/19. However, the visitors have drawn three of their last four league outings (W1), while they’ve recently stuttered on the road. Indeed, a return of one win from seven Bundesliga travels doesn’t make for good reading (D4, L2).
