Freiburg vs Bayern Munich 30/03/19

30 March 2019

The resurgent Freiburg team welcome the Bundesliga title contenders Bayern Munich to the Schwarzwald-Stadion hoping to snap a five-game winless run in H2Hs with the German giants (D1, L4).

A promising run of form (W2, D4, L1) has seen the hosts escaping the relegation territory as they now sit 11th with a comfortable 11-point gap on 16th-placed Stuttgart. What’s more, Christian Streich’s men have gone from three consecutive BL home failures (D2, L1) to two straight BL home triumphs in which they’ve scored seven goals while conceding two in the process. Interestingly, three of Freiburg’s BL home victories have seen them score 3+ match goals while they’ve allowed over 2.5 goals per match in two of three BL home failures. Although they’ve failed to impress the home crowd for the majority of the season, the Breisgau-Brasilianer have provided entertainment to the neutral, with six of 13 of their BL games at the Schwarzwald-Stadion producing over 3.5 goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors have racked up a six-game BL winning run in the build-up to this meeting, scoring 3+ match goals five times across those encounters. What’s more, the reigning holders have bagged over 4.5 goals in all three of their previous BL outings, conceding barely one goal in the process. Currently level with Borussia Dortmund in terms of points, the Bavarians can’t afford a mistake here, as they look to post their 11th BL road triumph this term (W10, L3). Niko Kovac’s men are yet to play out a draw away from home (only ones), as they remain the only team in the German top tier to score over 30 goals on the road this campaign (33). But, Bayern’s main problem away from home is their inability to keep a clean sheet. Kovac’s players have conceded a goal in all four of their last BL road trips, allowing over 1.5 goals per match twice along the way.
