France vs Netherlands 11/03/20

11 March 2020

The two nations yet to lose at the Tournoi de France Women go head-to-head at the Stade du Hainaut as France W take on the Netherlands W.

France have won two of their opening games at the tournament, both via the same 1-0 scoreline, with the winner in each coming in the 55th minute of play. As a result, they have now won six matches in a row, keeping a clean sheet in each while scoring over 1.5 goals in four. The majority (64.71%) of their goals scored across those successes came in the second half (11/17). France have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with, winning all but two of their last 16 fixtures (D1, L1), with nine of their 13 wins during that stretch yielding a multiple-goal margin. ‘Les Bleues’ surely line up another victory as they take on a side they’ve beaten in three of their last five H2Hs (D1, L1). Curiously, three of their results (win/loss) in those five H2Hs produced the identical 2-1 scoreline.

Meanwhile, both of the Netherlands’ opening matches at the tournament have ended with the same 0-0 scoreline, stretching their unbeaten run to eight games (W6). Notably, each of their six victories during the abovementioned streak yielded a margin of at least two goals, with the Netherlands scoring over 2.5 in five. A lot more dangerous in the second half, they have scored 64.29% (18) of 28 goals across those six wins after the break. Just like France, the ‘Oranje’ are enjoying a quite prosperous period, having won 14 of their last 19 matches (D4, L1), with nine of those triumphs seeing them keep a clean sheet. Interestingly, the Netherlands’ last defeat to a European nation dates back to March 2019 when they lost 1-0 to Poland, after which they won seven of eight such meetings (D1).
