Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Paderborn 16/05/20
16 May 2020
Fortuna Dusseldorf welcome dead-last Paderborn to the Merkur Spiel-Arena for the bottom-of-the-table Bundesliga (BL) clash.
The hosts endured all sorts of problems since the turn of the year, picking up just one triumph in eight Bundesliga (BL) fixtures in 2020 (W1, D4, L3). Frustratingly for the Dusseldorf fans, the ‘Flingeraner’ bagged under 1.5 goals in five of those seven matches, with six of their nine goals scored across those games coming in the first-half of play (66.67%). Delivering action from the get-go, 52% of Dusseldorf’s total BL goals scored this season came before the halftime break (14/27). In turn, 61.54% (eight) of their 13 BL home goals so far have come in the first 45 minutes. However, Uwe Rosler’s men have failed to keep a blank sheet in ten of 12 league home games thus far, allowing at least one goal in their last seven such outings.
As for the visitors, they are nailed to the bottom of the table and are in desperate need for points here. Indeed, Paderborn trail 16th-placed Dusseldorf by six points and a possible failure here could as well mean a return to the second-tier. But, Paderborn’s form before the pandemic suggests that it will be a daunting prospect for them to pull off a win. Steffen Baumgart’s players suffered four successive defeats before the season was halted, conceding over 1.5 goals in each, although just one of those failures yielded a multiple-goal margin.
