Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Borussia Monchengladbach 16/02/20
16 February 2020
Fortuna Dusseldorf will hope to snap a two-game winless Bundesliga (BL) home streak (D1, L1) when they take on Borussia Monchengladbach at the Merkur Spiel-Arena this weekend.
The hosts have yet to pick up a league win in the new calendar year (D2, L2), with three of their four top-flight games since the turn of 2020 featuring under 2.5 goals. For Dusseldorf, goals have been at a premium for quite some time. They’ve scored over 1.5 goals in just one of their previous ten BL outings, drawing a blank in six of the other nine. In fact, no team has netted fewer league goals than Dusseldorf so far, with only nine of their 20 BL goals scored coming at home (45%). The ‘Flingeraner’ will have to invent something special to beat Monchengladbach here, as they’ve lost three of their five top-flight H2Hs (D1, L1), scoring one goal or less in four.
Yet, the visitors will have to overcome their own crisis, having secured just one win in three league matches since the turn of the year (D1, L1). The Foals remain in contention for the BL title, as they sit four points adrift of league-toppers Bayern Munich, and that’s thanks to their indifferent away form (W4, D2, L4). Indeed, only 35.9% (14) of their total 39 league points came away from home, with Monchengladbach managing an average of 1.2 goals scored per BL road fixture. Frustratingly for the traveling fans, the Prussians have failed to clinch a single win in their last five BL road trips (D2, L3), drawing a blank in three. Six of Monchengladbach’s ten BL away games have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals, with half of them (five) featuring under 2.5 goals.
