Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Borussia Dortmund 13/06/20

13 June 2020

Out-of-sorts Fortuna Dusseldorf welcome the second-placed Bundesliga (BL) side, Borussia Dortmund, to the Merkur Spiel-Arena in what might be a high-scoring affair. Indeed, each of their last four top-flight H2Hs has featured at least three goals, with three seeing both teams on the scoresheet.

Having won just one of their seven previous league matches (D5, L1), the hosts enter this round sitting three points adrift of the safe zone. Yet, the Merkur Spiel-Arena has been a venue of entertainment lately, as four of Dusseldorf’s last five BL games here witnessed over 2.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet. Particularly vulnerable after halftime, the ‘Flingeraner’ have shipped 58% (15) of their 26 BL home goals conceded in the second half of play. But, Dusseldorf’s hopes of picking up three points here will heavily depend on whether or not they can open the scoring – Uwe Rosler’s side lost five of six BL home matches in which they’ve allowed the first goal (W1).

As for the visitors, they’ve won four of five top-flight games since Germany’s top-tier football returned to action (L1), with four of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. Additionally, ‘Die Borussen’ have racked up four consecutive league victories away from home, breaking the deadlock and scoring at least two goals in total in each. Dortmund’s attack usually burst into life after the break, considering that 67% (16) of their 24 BL away goals scored so far arrived in the second half of play. If they win here, Lucien Favre’s men are likely to do it in style, as six of their eight BL away triumphs this term yielded at least a two-goal margin.
