Fiorentina vs Sassuolo 02/07/20

2 July 2020

The two sides that have had identical returns from their last three Serie A fixtures (D2, L1) go head-to-head at the Stadio Artemio Franchi as Fiorentina (13th) take on Sassuolo (12th) in a mid-table clash.

With just three points separating the teams ahead of the kick-off, Fiorentina will look to take Sassuolo’s place in the table relying on the fact they’ve won three of their last four top-flight H2Hs held at this stadium (L1). However, the hosts have failed to seal a triumph in their previous four Serie A matches (D3, L1), scoring under 1.5 goals on all of those occasions. In turn, low-scoring ‘Viola’ have netted one goal or less in 11 consecutive league home games (W2, D5, L4), with eight of those encounters featuring under 2.5 total goals. Fiorentina’s cagey approach in the early stages has seen them find the net inside the opening 15 minutes of play in just one of 14 Serie A home goals this season.

Meanwhile, the visitors have struggled to pick up a win in their last three Serie A fixtures (D2, L1), all of which saw over 4.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Sassuolo’s recent away games have also overseen a lot of action, with four of their previous five league road trips featuring goals in both halves and over 2.5 goals in total. A tight affair is most definitely on the cards, though, given that ten of Sassuolo’s 14 Serie A away matches have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (71.43%). But, due to their inability to bounce back after conceding the opening goal, the ‘Neroverdi’ will be desperate to open the scoring here. Indeed, Roberto De Zerbi’s side won only one of nine league away games in which they’ve shipped the opener (D2, L6).
