Fiorentina vs Napoli 25/08/19
25 August 2019
Fiorentina welcome the last season’s Serie A (SA) runners-up Napoli to the Stadio Artemio Franchi for the 2019/20 SA opener. Interestingly, none of their previous four league H2H clashes has seen both teams score, with only one of those encounters producing over 2.5 goals.
The hosts endured a torrid 2018/19 SA campaign having finished just three points above the relegation zone, mainly thanks to their run of disastrous form since the turn of the year. Fiorentina’s last SA win dates back to mid-February (4-1 against SPAL on the road), after which they’ve failed to pick up a victory in 14 subsequent league outings (D6, L8). What’s more, Vincenzo Montella’s men are winless in all ten SA home matches in 2019 (D7, L3), with all of those failures in that period ending with the same 1-0 scoreline against their favor. Also, just 20% of their SA home games since the turn of the year has produced over 2.5 goals, with Viola scoring 2+ match goals only twice along the way.
As for the visitors, none of their last six SA away matches has ended in a draw (W4, L2), with five of those clashes featuring over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Only Juventus has collected more away points than Napoli (36) and clinched more wins on the road than Gli Azzurri (11) the last term. Free-scoring Napoli side has found the net in eight consecutive SA trips, bagging 2+ match goals six times in the process. However, the Partenopei have struggled to come out on top in their last four visits here (D3, L1), netting one goal or less three times across those meetings.
