Feyenoord vs Panathinaikos 18/07/19
18 July 2019
Panathinaikos travel to De Kuip to kick off their pre-season against the Eredivisie heavyweights Feyenoord.
The Dutch giants have already played out four friendlies this summer, securing three straight wins before suffering a 3-1 loss to Salzburg last week. Notably, all four of those games have featured over 2.5 goals, with three of them seeing both teams score. If De Trots van Zuid win here, it will probably see Panathinaikos concede at least two goals, as all 14 of Feyenoord’s wins in 2019 saw them score over 1.5 goals per match. A potential worry for Jaap Stam could be that his players struggled to keep a clean sheet in seven of their last nine outings, allowing two or more goals twice though.
Meanwhile, the Greek side will be desperate to bounce back after an underwhelming 2018-19 campaign that has seen them finish eighth in the Super League Greece. The Greens have endured mixed fortunes in their last six outings (W3, L3), with just two of those matches seeing both teams score. Interestingly, Giorgos Donis’ men have scored two or more goals in all three of those triumphs while conceding over 1.5 match goals across those three failures. Panathinaikos’ games since late January have mostly been short of entertainment, with 12 of 16 matches in that span featuring under 2.5 goals while just three witnessed goals at both ends.
