Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 01/09/19
1 September 2019
Wolverhampton Wanderers will try to post their first Premier League (PL) triumph this term when they take on tough Everton side when the two struggling sides meet face-to-face at Goodison Park this weekend.
Three games with virtually no action and a little bit of everything (W1, D1 L1) so far highlighted Everton’s young season. The hosts have not only scored one goal in the opening three PL fixtures this term (less than any other side), but they’ve barely produced six shots on target in that sequence. Everton’s stubborn defending is their main strength at the moment, as the Toffees prevented their rivals from scoring eight times in their last 11 PL outings. Another encouraging fact for the home fans is that Everton won each of their previous five PL home games, all of which have seen them beat their opponents to nil.
Meanwhile, the visitors played out three consecutive draws at the beginning of the new league campaign, two of which have ended with the same 1-1 scoreline. Just one win in their last eight PL trips (W1, D3, L4) suggests it will be a daunting prospect for Wolves to strike their first league win this season here, although they walked away with all three points the last time they arrived at Goodison Park. Nuno Espirito Santo has yet to solve the Wanderers’ problems in the final third that saw them score one goal or less in eight of their last ten PL away matches. In the same period, Wolves have kept just one blank sheet, conceding over 1.5 match goals four times in the process.
